Data deletion after a trial or subscription ends or a site is deactivated

If a Server Backup trial ends without being converted or upgraded to a subscription, or if a Server Backup subscription is not renewed, backup data for the customer or site is deleted after a grace period. If a site with a Server Backup trial or subscription is deactivated, backup data for the customer or site is deleted after a grace period or immutability period.

There is a 7-day grace period after a trial expires or is disabled or suspended. If a customer converts or upgrades their trial to a subscription during the grace period, the customer's backup data remains and they can recover from existing backups​. If a customer does not convert or upgrade their trial to a subscription during the grace period, the customer's backup data is deleted.

There is a 30-day grace period after a subscription expires or is disabled or suspended. If a customer renews their subscription during the grace period, the customer's backup data remains and they can recover from existing backups​. If a customer does not renew their subscription during the grace period, the customer's backup data is deleted.

There is a 7-day grace period after a site is deactivated. However, if a device in a site has an immutability period, you cannot deactivate the site until after the immutability period of its backups expires. If a customer wants to use Server Backup after their data has been deleted, they must start over with a new site, subscription, storage location, agent registrations, and backups.

Note: Backups do not run during the 7-day grace period after a trial ends or the 30-day grace period after a subscription ends.

Note: If a site is deleted from the Management Console, its backups are immediately marked for deletion from cloud storage. There is no grace period after a site deletion. If a site is suspended in the Management Console, there is a grace period before data is deleted. For more information, see Viewing a specific site in the Business Products Administration Guide.

Note: There is sometimes a delay before backup data is deleted from storage. Depending on the amount of data, it can take several days to delete. You cannot recover device data during this time. If a customer starts a new subscription after their data is marked for deletion but before it has been deleted, if you try to choose the same backup storage location for the customer, a message indicates that the storage was previously used by the site and contains data pending deletion.
