OpenText Hosted Cloud storage

With Server Backup - Public Cloud: OpenText Hosted Cloud, you can back up servers to cloud storage in one of the following regions:

If you manage Server Backup for multiple customers, you can choose an OpenText Hosted Cloud storage region for each customer. You can also choose the Server Backup product type for each customer: either OpenText Hosted Cloud or Bring Your Own Cloud.

Benefits of using OpenText Hosted Cloud storage include:

Note: At this time, OpenText Hosted Cloud storage is only available for customers who manage products using Secure Cloud.

Billing for OpenText Hosted Cloud customers

Customers who back up servers to OpenText Hosted Cloud storage are billed based on their "protected data size", or the amount of data that they back up from servers. The protected data size is converted to a usage amount in "backup units" according to the servers' retention settings, and customers are billed for their usage each month.

Protected data size

The daily protected data size for a server is taken from the last backup each day. If a server is not backed up on a particular day but has a recovery point in cloud storage, the protected data size is taken from the most recent backup. For example, if 1500 GB of data is backed up each day from a server on the first 29 days of a billing period and there is no backup on the last day (but there is at least one recovery point in cloud storage from a previous backup), the protected data size for the last day of the billing period is 1500 GB.

The monthly protected data size is calculated separately for servers with standard retention settings and servers with custom retention settings. For each group of servers, the monthly protected data size is the sum of the daily protected data size for the servers divided by the number of days in the billing period. For example, if 4250 GB of data is backed up from servers with standard retention settings on the first 20 days of a billing period and 5000 GB of data is backed up on the next 10 days, the monthly protected data size for servers with standard retention settings is:

(4250 GB * 20) + (5000 GB * 10) = 4500 GB

Retention settings are specified in Server Backup policies. For more information, see Viewing and editing Server Backup policies and Retention settings.

Monthly usage in backup units

The monthly protected data size is converted into usage in backup units based on the servers' retention settings. For servers with standard retention settings, a backup unit is 10 GB of data. For servers with custom retention settings, where data can be kept for longer, a backup unit is 7 GB of data. The backup unit conversion size for servers with custom retention settings is smaller than for servers with standard retentions, but the price per backup unit remains the same. As a result, customers pay a higher cost per gigabyte of data with custom retention settings, to account for higher storage and management costs.

For example, if a customer backs up 4500 GB of data from servers with the standard retention policy and 2100 GB of data from servers with custom retention settings, the usage for the monthly billing period is:

(4500 GB / 10 GB) + (2100 GB / 7 GB) = 750 backup units
