Allow Unsafe Browsing

Allows users to bypass the Web Security Service if they cannot access the service; dependent on Hot Spot Management

For mobile users who must have access to the web, this provides a failsafe. The DWP will send all traffic directly to the internet if the Web Service cannot be contacted.

Optional but required by some

Not needed

Browser Bypass: Browser connects directly to the Internet

Populates the browser with URLs and IP addresses to connect directly to web sites, and not go through the Web Service.

Used for sites that need a direct connection with no traffic traversing the Web Service AND bypasses any proxies, which is needed for NTLM authentication and internal IP addresses.

Not needed

Use the IE setting “Bypass proxy server for local addresses”

Selects the option in IE that sends all traffic to non-routable (RFC 1318) IP addresses.

Turn on; these IP addresses cannot be filtered by the service, and connections to them fail if they are not configured to bypass the service.

Optional

Optional

Enable Automatic User Name Resolution

Synchronizes the Web Security Service and client user name and password for users within the corporate network

On by default. Rarely needed. May be turned off if the Windows login name and the user's email address are different.
