Getting Started With Desktop Web Proxy

Follow these steps to ensure that you’re ready to deploy and use Desktop Web Proxy (DWP).

To get started with DWP:

  1. Configure the corporate gateway to allow egress to wss.webroot.com on port 80, 8080, or 443, and ensure this matches the Proxy Address & Proxy Port configured at Accounts > DWP Configuration.

    • This includes firewalls, caching proxies, or anything else that intercepts or blocks traffic.
    • If all traffic is forced through a caching proxy, an ADM/GPO must configure the endpoint directly.
    • For additional instructions, see the Desktop Web Proxy Configuration User Guide.
  1. Confirm that your internet-facing, external (gateway) IP addresses are present in the management portal option Accounts > Account > IP Range.

If any IPs are missing, contact your service supplier or customer support.

  2. Test the connection using telnet wss.webroot.com 80. A blank screen should replace the typed content. Press Ctrl-Z to close the connection, which once again displays the command prompt.
  3. Once all of the above have been successfully completed, continue to Deploying and Using Desktop Web Proxy.
